Three police official arrested for driving in Lagos restricted lane!
It was gathered that the policemen, now in police custody, also beat up officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for daring to stop them from plying the dedicated lane in Maryland area of the state.
An eyewitness, who did not want his name in print, said the police escort van belonging to one of the banks took the BRT lane disregarding the order restricting vehicles other than the BRT buses, while the LASTMA officials confronted them for daring to ply the lane.
The policemen were said to have pounced on the LASTMA officials, inflicting injury on one of them, tearing his uniform.
According to eyewitness account, if not for the prompt intervention of LASTMA Monitoring Team, backed up with policemen, the matter would have escalated, as they promptly arrested the three police officers while the driver of the Hilux van fled the scene, but was later arrested by the LASTMA backup team.
Confirming the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Babatunde Edu, said the police officers had been arrested.
