There is an intense motion picture camera market penetration battle currently going on between two giants, Sony and Cannon, over which products of the two companies will be more suitable and economical for shooting of Nollywood films that would conform with international standard.This supremacy battle came to the fore last Tuesday in Surulere, Lagos, when Sony in Nigeria, held an interactive session with key Nollywood producers, directors, camera operators, editors and other stakeholders to introduce the new Sony NEX FS 700 to the industry.
However, while the organization made concerted efforts to highlight the advantages of the new product over those of its competitors particularly its extreme slow motion function, most stakeholders at the conference showed strong preference for Cannon cameras, particularly the Cannon 5 D Mark 3, which is said to be suitable for cinemas and cheaper.
Some of the associations and guilds represented at the conference included the Association of Nollywood Core Producers (ANCOP), Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Nigerian Society of Cinematographers (NSC), Nigerian Guild of Film Editors (NGFE) among others.Notable names present were Alex Eyengho, Chief Gab Okoye (Igwe Gabosky), Chris Ekejimbe, Zik Zulu Okafor, Mahmoud Ali-Balogun, Francis Onwuchie, Chico Ejiro, Tunde Kelani, Joe Brown, Obi Osotule, Charles Novia, Isa Abubakar and a host of others.
