IN a major crackdown, the Anambra State Police Command yesterday disclosed that it killed five suspected kidnappers and arrested 140 robbers across the state in the past three months.
In a press briefing at the Command’s Headquarters, Amawbia, the Commissioner of Police, Ballah M. Nasarawa, said only one suspected armed robber was killed at Abatete, adding that 59 suspected kidnappers were also arrested at different locations in the state.
Nasarawa, however, regretted that about 15 policemen and officers lost their lives within the same period, saying that seven died at Amichi, nine at Ozubulu and two at Onitsha police stations respectively during raids by unknown gunmen.
He further stated that six cult members arrested by security agents were in custody, while 11 kidnapped victims had been rescued across the state.
