Ivorian player, Didier Drogba signs to a Chinese club for £200k per week?
Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has confirmed, as expected, that he will join Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenua, in a deal reportedly worth £200,000 per week.
The Ivorian signed off in style at Stamford Bridge, scoring the equalising goal and decisive penalty as the Stamford Bridge club beat Bayern Munich to win the Champions League in May.
The 34-year-old will join former teammate Nicolas Anelka, who moved to Shanghai in January and has since been appointed to a player-coach role, in China.
"I have considered all the offers I have received in the past few weeks, but I feel that Shanghai Shenhua FC is the right move for me at this time," said read a statement on Drogba's website.
"I am looking forward to a new challenge and to experiencing a new culture, and I am excited about the new developments in the Chinese Super League. When Chelsea went to China last year, we had a great time and I met some amazing fans."
The move is long expected, although there was speculation linking Drogba with a move to Al Wasl of the United Arab Emirates, coached by Diego Maradona.
