rainstorm destroys residential houses at Nru community in Nsukka LG of Enugu state!

Rainstorm on Tuesday night damaged over 40 residential buildings in Nru community, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, forcing the residents to seek shelter in neighbouring communities.

As at Wednesday when our correspondent visited Nru, some of the affected residents were seen taking shelter outside their damaged houses.

Also destroyed were the parish house belonging to the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church as well as administrative and classroom blocks of Government Technical College, Nsukka.

The councillor representing the community, Mr. Celestine Ogbu, said the incident was the first in the community and added that the indigenes were grateful to God that no life was lost.

He said, “We have not seen this kind of disaster before in this community. You can see that countless residential houses, including a church and a secondary school have been destroyed by the storm.

“However, we thank God that no death has been recorded so far. You know this happened at night. Considering the level of the disaster, it was a miracle that none of the victims died.
