Tragedy truck yesterday in Lokoja, Kogi State as a cab driver killed seven people who were staying by the roadside in a suburb called ‘Galilee’ when the vehicle lost control.
The driver who was using the vehicle for commercial services was said to be coming from the town, heading to Lokoja Modern Market, when the vehicle suddenly lost control about two kilometres to its destination owing to dangerous overtaking.
Among the people killed were a roadside mechanic, a water vendor, a truck pusher and other pedestrians who were said to be coming from the market.
The situation resulted in violence as youths in the area took laws into their hands and started smashing the vehicles on transit along the route.
It took the intervention of the detachment of men of the Nigeria Police Force to restore normalcy to the area.
Contacted, the Police public Relation Officer (PPRO) State Command, Ile Simon, a Chief Superintendent of Police, said the command was yet to get the report.
