June 12, classic remembrance of MKO!

IT was tribute galore yesterday for the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola as Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), its National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and some governors extolled his virtues and proffered ways to the nation’s development.

In a statement to commemorate the 19th anniversary of June 12, 1993 presidential election, the Lagos State chapter of the ACN described the late Abiola as a hero of democracy. The party said that Abiola’s ultimate sacrifice to ensure the dawn of the present democracy in Nigeria remained a watershed that should be celebrated by every Nigerian.

In a statement by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Joe Igbokwe, the party added that Nigeria still owed monumental debts to Abiola for the solid manner he stood against the military, which ultimately led to the end of military rule in 1999. It charged the Federal Government to name the country’s seat of power at Aso Rock after Abiola for the monumental sacrifice he paid for the present democracy in Nigeria.
